General Tso’s Seitan

This tasty dish comes together in just a few minutes and is packed with plant-based protein thanks to the addition of seitan.

Ingredients
  

Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1-2 teaspoons chili sauce or to taste
  • â…” cup vegetable broth
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons agave nectar

Seitan & Vegetables

  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • ÂĽ teaspoon freshly-ground black pepper
  • 2 packages Upton’s Naturals Traditional Seitan
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3-4 scallions sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic sliced
  • 2 teaspoons freshly-grated ginger
  • 1 head broccoli cut into florets and steamed

For Serving

  • 1 1/2-2 cups cooked rice
  • ½ cup sliced scallion

Instructions
 

  • Mix all sauce ingredients together. Set aside.
  • Stir together the cornstarch, soy sauce, and pepper in a medium bowl. Add the Seitan and toss to coat. Add the vegetable oil to a skillet and heat over medium-high. Add the Seitan and pan fry until crispy on all sides, about 5 minutes on each side. Add the scallions, garlic, and ginger and cook for 30 more seconds.
  • Add the broccoli and sauce and continue cooking until the sauce thickens and the Seitan and broccoli are thoroughly coated. Remove from heat.
  • Serve on a bed of rice and top with chopped scallion.

Notes

Use low sodium vegetable broth and soy sauce, if desired. 
Swap in vegetable broth for oil in the sauce recipe if reducing oil usage. 
This recipe has not been testing using an air fryer.
